The idea of most people is breast cancer is not that much dangerous and we can be fully recovered after removing the cancerous breast. But this can only be done if the cancer is diagnosed at the early stage. Advanced breast cancers are very dangerous. As women, we must get to know about the breast cancer very well.
Breast cancer occurs when some breast cells begin to grow abnormally. Both men and women could get breast cancer, but it is far more common in women. Women who are above the age of 40 are at high risk.
Who gets breast cancer?
- Family background genes: Your risk of breast cancer is increased if your mother, sister or daughter is diagnosed with breast cancer.
- Beginning periods before the age of 12
- Late menopause: Periods don’t stop until the age of 55
- Breastfeeding less than one year
- Obesity
- High alcohol intake and smoking
- Oral contraceptives
- Having never being pregnant
- Having first child after the age of 30
- Less physical activity
Symptoms of breast cancer
A lump in your breast or underarm
A lump in the breast or underarm that feels different from the surrounding tissue could be a symptom of breast cancer. Mostly this is the first sign of early stage breast cancer. Although most of these lumps are not painful some lumps may give you a tiny sensation. These lumps could be easily identified through a mammogram even before you feel it.
Nipple discharge
Nipple discharge is another sign of early stage breast cancer. This could be a clear and colorless discharge. But sometimes it could be bloody or gets another color.
Breast pain or tenderness
Pain or tenderness in your breast can be another sign of breast cancer.
Change in your breast
The changes in your breast include the size, texture or temperature of your breast. You might notice a reddish surface like the skin of an orange peel. This could be a sign of advanced breast cancer.
Nipple changes
The nipple might pull back to the breast or change the shape. You might notice a rash that makes the nipple look red and scaly.
If you notice any of these symptoms don’t be late even a single day. Let your doctor about this. Although, the older women get more breast cancers, any women at any stage can get a breast cancer. So, constant self-breast examinations are very vital. If you are more than 40 years go for a mammogram test. Early detection of breast cancer is very significant to do necessary treatments.
