Christmas Yule Log Cake

Yule Log Cake is a most significant thing in your Christmas table that makes you feel Christmassy. Try out this simple and easy but attractive log cake this time.

Ingredients:Chocolate Sponge Cake

  • Eggs – 04
  • Sugar (divided) – 100g
  • Vanilla – 1 tsp
  • All-purpose Flour – 30g
  • Cocoa Powder – 30g
  • Baking Powder – ¼ tsp
  • Salt – ¼ tsp
  • Ingredients:Chocolate Sponge Cake

  • Whipping Cream – 125ml
  • Sugar – 40g
  • Ingredients:Chocolate Shards

  • Semi-sweet Chocolate – 120g
  • Semi-sweet Chocolate (Small pieces) – 40g
  • Ingredients:Dusting

  • Icing Sugar
  • Method:

  • First separate eggs and in one bowl beat egg whites until peaks form. While beating add half of the sugar.
  • In a separate bowl beat egg yolks and rest of the sugar until thick and creamy.
  • Then add vanilla.
  • After that mix and sieve flour, cocoa powder, baking powder and salt. Incorporate this flour mixture into yolks mixture. Fold prepared egg whites with this.
  • Pour the batter into a baking tray (12” x 16”) and spread evenly. It needs to bake the cake around 10-12mins under 180C in a pre-heated oven.
  • Get a separate baking sheet and dust some powdered sugar on it. Keep the baked cake on this sheet and remove the baking sheet that you baked with.
  • Then roll the cake with the baking sheet while it is hot and keep around 01 hour until cake cools down.
  • To make the frosting, beat whipping cream until stiff peaks form. While beating add sugar.
  • When the cake cools down completely, unroll the cake and spread whipped cream evenly.
  • Again, roll the cake and keep it in the fridge around 2-3 hours to set.
  • To make chocolate shards, in a small bowl melt chocolate. Get a parchment paper and pour melted chocolate on it. Spread it into a thin layer.
  • Now roll this with the parchment paper and keep it in the fridge around 30-40mins. Once it is set unroll the paper to break chocolate into shards.
  • After that stick these shards on the cake by using some melted chocolate and keep the cake again in the fridge around 30mins.
  • Decorate the cake by dusting some icing sugar.
